Computer.Medicine

High-tech for healthy living and lifestyle

The exhibition Computer.Medicine provides a fascinating insight into the high-tech advances transforming the world of medicine and healthcare. More than 100 spectacular displays and many stunning inter-active exhibits and multi-media stations give a broad, overall picture of the vast unfolding potential offered by computer technology. They show how computers are supporting all kinds of medical procedures. The latest systems and equipment for diagnosis and treatment in every medical area are explained. Inter-active exhibits encourage visitors to test these and to understand how they function. The exhibits offer a fascinating glimpse into the inner workings of the body. An appendix can be virtually removed; we’re shown how messages from the brain can direct computers; the benefits of computer-controlled artificial limbs are illustrated. The world’s largest computer museum, the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForum, launched this unique exhibition for the tenth anniversary of its founding. It was conceived from the beginning as a travelling exhibition which will go on show at museums world-wide.

Exhibition Design

ArchiMeDes developed a highly distinctive design for the travelling exhibition. This is realised through URBAN116. The exhibition system enables designers to construct round spaces with the most varied of radii. The main exhibition area has the round lecture hall shape of a classical anatomy theatre where medicine was once taught. Incorporated within the URBAN116 system are interactive exhibits, showcases and tables. The exhibits developed by ArchiMeDes are given a striking presentation. A third of all exhibits can be tested by the visitors.
