Blackbox Exercise
A series of identical, black, wooden cubical boxes filled with various objects acted as a medium for creative expression. Artists from Hong Kong and Berlin, together with youth from Berlin, designed the interior of the boxes as an experiment in self-identity and representation. The black box acted as a metaphor for a system that is opaque, and communicated an idea as to how such a closed, mysterious system can be made transparent and accessible. The boxes were arranged like a maze garden. Sitting on mirrored corners, they seemed to hover in space. The exhibition was designed to stimulate the visitor to find his/her own way through the space and to playfully discover the boxes’ content.
